Rob Zombie wasn’t the only force fusing cybernetic metal, dancey industrial and campy rap at the end of the Nineties. Powerman 5000 were right there alongside the Hellbilly, and their 1999 magnum opus, Tonight the Stars Revolt!, is a wickedly fun record that offers tons of spooky thrills and chant-along hooks — and, refreshingly, doesn’t take itself too seriously. “When Worlds Collide” and “Nobody’s Real” are nu-metal classics, and Zombie himself shows up on “Blast Off to Nowhere” to give his seal of ghoulish approval.
