Long before Hatebreed were staples of the metal festival circuit and regarded as one of the most influential heavy hardcore bands in the genre’s history, they were just a crew of aggressive punks from Connecticut making knuckle-dragging hardcore bangers. Their 1996 debut, Under the Knife, is by far the band’s rawest and most uncompromising set of songs, opening with the stomping “Smash Your Enemies” and never letting the dust settle before the pounding “Filth” carries this iconic seven-inch to a close.
