DEFTONES 'KOI NO YOKAN' LP

Deftones’ seventh full-length was their second to feature bassist Sergio Vega in their lineup — the Quicksand member had joined following a car crash that put founding bassist Chi Cheng in a comatose state until his death in 2013. Despite coming together through tragic circumstances, Vega brings stately rhythmic bliss to Koi No Yokan. The album thrives off Deftones’ push-and-pull between spaceborne twitchiness (“Swerve City”), heavy grooves (“Gauze”) and exhaling, in-the-red romanticism (“Entombed”). Koi No Yokan is an elevated and perhaps underrated moment in the band’s unimpeachable discography.
