Silverstein’s second album, Discovering The Waterfront, features singles “Smile In Your Sleep” and their biggest hit to date, “My Heroine.” The Top 40 Billboard 200 Album was originally released in 2005, and built off their explosive debut and added elements of punk rock. The fast-paced and hook-filled album saw the band achieve new levels of success, which cemented the bands position as leaders of the post hardcore/emo scene. The album returns to vinyl to celebrate its 18th anniversary.
Silverstein’s scrappy 2003 debut, When Broken Is Easily Fixed, had the massive emo sing-along “Smashed Into Pieces,” but Discovering the Waterfront is when they sealed their fate as post-hardcore progenitors. The Canuck band’s 2005 LP cut through the noise of ‘core-inflected emo and pop-punk that dominated MySpace pages in the mid-2000s. Songs like “Smile In Your Sleep” and “My Heroine” are generational classics, and the record’s beautiful artwork was made to be propped up against a turntable while the music plays.
