A Perfect Circle’s first two albums established their place in heavy music history through a moonlit moodiness anchored by Billy Howerdel’s expressive guitar work and TOOL vocalist Maynard James Keenan’s plaintive vocal tremoring. Their third full-length, eMOTIVe, invigorated some of APC’s favorite songs with their signature sound, while also adding a pair of original tracks to the canon. An anti-war theme coalesced around covers of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On?” and more, pushing the group into their most overtly political period yet.
