Fantômas pulled the curtain back to salute more than just metal on their subversively cinematic second album. Whether highlighting silver-screen classics like The Godfather or B-movie outliers like Spider Baby, Fantômas cranked up the intensity of the film score originals whether adding distortedly thrashy sonics or haunted-house melodica. And Mike Patton went elegantly creep-mode with his layered screams and baby whispers. Fantômas were sitting in the director’s chair, and their vision was impeccably weird.
