Mike Patton’s flights of fancy have taken him anywhere from the sometimes rock-radio-dominating Faith No More to the death-jazz-surf-cartoon-music hybridity of Mr. Bungle. On the surface, Patton’s Peeping Tom project makes for one of his smoothest headphone sessions — taking cues from Daiquiri-stained Fifties exotica and Nineties triphop — but it’s low-key one of his most perverted, too. Porn-y wah pedals, uncomfortably fuzz-forward bossa novas and a breathy, F-bomb-dropping guest spot from Norah Jones make Peeping Tom a subversively sweet addition to one of music’s wildest canons.
