…Like Clockwork was written following a near-death experience for Queens leader Josh Homme, and the deep, depressive period that followed. Perhaps understandably, the band’s sixth full-length isn’t one of Queens of the Stone Age’s most uproarious rock and roll efforts — its opening “Keep Your Eyes Peeled” exists upon a macabre, spidery slink, while “The Vampyre of Time and Memory” is a beautifully dark goth-glam contemplation. Yet it still finds the band delivering its signature, sensual desert-rock (“I Sat by the Ocean”) and it features big-time contributions from Trent Reznor, Dave Grohl, Elton John and members of Arctic Monkeys.
