Type O’s debut full-length rages with a darkened hardcore fury that speaks to bassist-vocalist Peter Steele’s previous, crossover-styled project, Carnivore. Yet while there’s a frantic, speedy edge to Slow, Deep and Hard’s first couple of songs, the rest of the record’s haunted house organs and gloom-plodding pace would become cornerstones of the Drab Four’s sound. Type O technically got slower over time. Steele’s lyrics progressively became more sensual the further he leaned into his deep, baritone croon. But no other LP of theirs is as brutish or hard as this. Available now as a 140g double LP on green-and-black marbled vinyl.
