Coming off last week’s massive announcement that Black Sabbath’s original lineup — Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward — will be staging one last concert next summer in their native Birmingham, U.K., organizers for the talent-jammed event have revealed another wave of openers, including Guns N’ Roses, TOOL, Ozzy Collaborator and super-producer Andrew Watt, and more.
The latest show poster for Sabbath’s “Back to the Beginning” concert, which takes place July 5th at Birmingham’s Villa Park, unveiled a handful of lineup additions, including the aforementioned GN’R and alt-metal icons TOOL.
Likewise, the show also now includes appearances from Rival Sons, Osbourne’s Ordinary Man/Patient Number 9 producer-guitarist Watt, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer and Ozzy collaborator Chad Smith, former Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson, Living Colour shredder Vernon Reid, Ugly Kid Joe crooner Whitfield Crane and, serving as host, Aquaman himself Jason Momoa.
As previously reported, the all-star event also features Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Lamb of God and a one-time supergroup including members of Korn, Ghost, Smashing Pumpkins, Limp Bizkit, Disturbed, Sleep Token and many more.
That said, Osbourne also just revealed on his Ozzy Speaks SiriusXM radio show (via Consequence of Sound) that due to his ongoing health concerns, including his ongoing battle with Parkin 2 disease, he will not be undertaking a full performance with his old Sabbath bandmates. Instead, he will be playing hitting some Sabbath classics, as well as some solo material.
“I’m not planning on doing a set with Black Sabbath but I am doing little bits and pieces with them,” he said. “I am doing what I can, where I feel comfortable.”
He later added: “I am trying to get back on my feet. When you get up in the morning, you just jump out of bed. I have to balance myself, but I’m not dead. I’m still actively doing things.”
As previously reported, proceeds from the upcoming “Back to the Beginning” concert will be going to the following charities: CureParkinson’s, Birmingham Childrens Hospital and Acorn Childrens Hospice, a Children’s Hospice supported by Aston Villa.
