Tomahawk made their long-awaited return to the stage over the weekend, with the alt-rock supergroup’s outfit’s first show since 2013 having given the crowd at Nashville, Tennessee’s Brooklyn Bowl a set of classic cuts and several live debuts.
The Saturday (Jul 18th) performance launched Tomahawk’s “A Huge Waste Of Your Time And Money Tour”, and formally reunited Faith No More vocalist Mike Patton, Jesus Lizard guitarist Duane Denison, Mr. Bungle bassist Trevor Dunn and Battles drummer John Stanier in front of an audience for the first time in a dozen years.
Following an opening set from the Melvins, Tomahawk kicked their headlining set off with “Flashback” from their 2001 self-titled debut.
Ahead of “God Hates a Coward,” an audience member shouted “We didn’t think you’d come back,” and Patton replied: ‘I didn’t think we were coming back either. I swear to god — I had my pajamas on…”
The night also had Patton and Co. marking the occasion by bringing 6 cuts from 2021’s Tonic Immobility to the stage for the first time: “SHHH!”, “Predators and Scavengers”, “Business Casual”, “Doomsday Fatigue”, “Fatback”, and “Sidewinder”.
The night also featured songs from 2003’s Mit Gas and 2013’s Oddfellows, and they added a cover of old time rock n roller Duane Eddy’s “Stalkin’”.
