TOM MORELLO announces POWER TO THE PEOPLE fest with SERJ TANKIAN, FOO FIGHTERS and more

Tom Morello is bringing “Power to the People” this fall via a one-day festival of the same name, which will feature performances from Serj Tankian, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen and more.

Morello’s Power to the People fest will take place October 3rd at Columbia, Maryland’s Merriweather Post Pavilion. The upcoming event was announced on stage last night (May 27th) during Morello’s performance with Bruce Springsteen at Washington, D.C.’s Nationals Park.

Per a press release, the PTTP fest “brings together artists, fans, activists, organizations and community leaders for an unforgettable day celebrating the power of music and collective action to inspire change.”

“The Power to the People festival is about freedom, justice, equality and rock and roll,” Morello adds in a statement. “It’s about the power everyday human beings have when they come together through music, art, community, and action. We’re honored to bring this incredible lineup to the DC area for a day that celebrates the spirit of activism, creativity, and hope.”

The night will rotate acts between two stages, this also including the Pretty Reckless’ Taylor Momsen, Dave Matthews, Joan Baez, Brittany Howard, Dropkick Murphys, Cypress Hill, Killer Mike, grandson, the Neighborhood Kids, Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron, The Linda Lindas and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels.

Jack Black will also be performing with a backup band including Roman Morello, XCOMM drummer Revel Ian, Yoyoka Soma and Hugo Weiss. Visual artist Shepard Fairey will be producing art and delivering a DJ set.

More musical guests are expected to be announced in the coming months.

The festival grounds will also house a “Freedom Village,” described as “an immersive space highlighting opportunities for civic engagement, grassroots organizing, education, mutual aid, and social impact initiatives.”

Partial proceeds from all ticket sales and 100 per cent of the net proceeds from VIP tickets will be donated to voting rights organization VoteRiders, while the HeadCount organization will be on-site to assist and educate people on voter registration.

A pre-sale begins this Friday (May 29th) at 10 a.m. ET, while the general on-sale occurs this May 30th at 10 a.m. ET. For more information on ticketing, visit the Power to the People website

In related news, Morello revealed that he’s due to deliver a collaborative track called “ADJOURN IT” tomorrow, which sees him teaming up with his son, Roman Morello, and Serj Tankian.
