Nu-dustrial favorites Spineshank — one of the five most overlooked nu-metal bands who should have been much bigger, according to Revolver readers — are coming back. After a decade-plus hiatus, the band just announced their reunion, with one show booked so far: an appearance at Louder Than Life festival, which will be the band’s first live set since Ozzfest 2012.
Spineshank’s first album, Strictly Diesel, exploded in 1998, but it was 2000’s The Height of Callousness — which turns 25 this year — that truly positioned them as potential heavyweights in both the nu-metal and industrial-metal scenes. Cuts like “New Disease” and “Synthetic” brought together grinding guitars and machine-like precision in a way that was catchy, crushing and cathartic.
But as quickly as they rose to prominence, Spineshank faded into the shadows. Following a few lineup changes and an extended period of silence, it seemed like the band had vanished for good — until now. The group’s revamped 2025 lineup features original members Jonny Santos, Rob Garcia and Tommy Decker, along with new recruits Tommy Decker, Jr. and Jason Hager.
“Reuniting after 13 Years to perform at Louder Than Life 2025, we are honored to bring back Spineshank!” Louder Than Life organizers wrote on Instagram, announcing the news.
“A Nu Metal force in the early 2000s, the Grammy-nominated band carved their name into heavy music history with era-defining tracks like ‘New Disease’, ‘Synthetic’, and ‘Smothered.’ Returning to the stage for the first time since 2012, these Ozzfest alumni are breaking their years of silence with a thunderous comeback here in Louisville!”
In his own post about the reunion, Spineshank frontman Jonny Santos hinted at more shows: “Well the cats outta the bag!” he wrote. “There will be much more news and announcements coming soon!! Can’t wait to see you all out there this year!!!!”
