Buffalo, New York hardcore quintet Spaced have announced they’ve signed to Pure Noise Records for an upcoming EP. While their No Escape release doesn’t drop in full ‘til October, the self-proclaimed “far out hardcore” act are previewing the EP through a new video for its “Cause and Effect.”
The video begins with an open mic night conceit, with a lone, double-guitar-loaded dude wrapping up a song for a sparse crowd. Following some hacky jokes from Marshall Smelly (a.k.a. comedian and podcast host Ian Fidance), Spaced hit the stage and stomp through “Cause and Effect,” a rally anthem sporting some serious fuck-around-and-find-out energy.
“This song expresses the anger and frustration we feel about our current society and the norms that are placed upon us,” vocalist Lexi Reyngoudt explains in a statement. “We’re told to be quiet and just obey but we really should be fighting back and speaking our minds. ‘Cause and Effect’ is an anthem for the times: ‘You pushed us too far; now it’s time we push back.’”
As for No Escape, the EP was tracked with producer Jay Zubricky (Every Time I Die, Terror, Age of Apocalypse), and follows the group’s 2024 full-length, This Is All We Ever Get. The new, five-song release is themed around “feeling suffocated by our everyday lives.”
“I wrote the lyrics of this album as an outlet to express my current feelings about what is going on,” Reyngoudt added. “However, while I feel down about things like that, I still feel lucky to be surrounded by the hardcore community and people who will speak up with me.”
