Orbit Culture have some “Nerve” — by which we mean, of course, that the Swedish heavy faction have just doled out another destructive preview of their forthcoming Death Above Life, a melodic, if monstrous metal cut that they indeed named “Nerve.”
The fourth single behind Death Above Life busts out the gate with energetically Celsius-infused drum beats, low-slung harmonies and spiraling guitar lines. Above all that, guitarist-vocalist Niklas Karlsson sings a tension-filled but tuneful set of lyrics on suffering through life with a “broken core.”
“With ‘Nerve,’ we’re leaning back towards the older Orbit Culture sound, blending in cleaner choruses and a twist at the end,” the band wrote of the song in a joint statement, adding of its origins, “This track has been with us for years—we just didn’t know what to do with it, especially since the verses felt a bit uncharacteristic for us. But that’s exactly what we ended up loving about it.”
Following last month’s Dune-style video for “Hydra,” the visualizer behind “Nerve” is a CGI fantasy exploring cave scenes full of half-naked skele-beasts and the sight of someone getting gooified upon a sacrificial altar.
“Visually, the song felt too ‘larger-than-life’ for a standard performance video,” Orbit Culture added. “After years of bouncing ideas with Miles Skarin at Crystal Spotlight, we knew this was the perfect track to bring into a fully realized 3D world.”
