Back in 2010, Soundgarden played their first show in 13 years, performing under the name Nudedragons — an anagram for their actual moniker — at the Showbox in Seattle. Now, the grunge greats’ surviving members are set to reunite once again under the same pseudonym and at the same venue.
The occasion is the December 14th SMooCH benefit show for the Seattle Children’s Hospital. Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist-vocalist Ben Shepherd and drummer-vocalist Matt Cameron are expected to take the stage for what is being described as “a brief encore performance.” Singer, songwriter, music educator and community organizer Shaina Shepherd will join them on vocals.
Shepherd, who fronted soul-grunge band Bearaxe, and Thayil previously teamed up in 2020 for the Museum of Pop Culture’s Founders Award event honoring Alice in Chains. They covered AIC’s “It Ain’t Like That,” a performance that you can watch below, and “What the Hell Have I.”
