Daron Malakian and Scars on Broadway — the side project of System of a Down guitarist-vocalist Daron Malakian — have unveiled even more rarities for the fans. Coming off the arrival of “Shotgun” earlier in the fall, Malakian is now offering up previously unheard tracks “War for Religion” and “Stranger.”
The tracks appear on the recent deluxe vinyl repress of DMSOB’s 2008 self-titled debut, but likewise hit streamers today (December 4th) as part of the newly collected, four-song War for Religion EP.
The title track begins as a soft-strummed but darkly melodic piece about being a survivor in times of war. The track then rises towards a moody rock finale. “Stranger” similarly keeps things subtle and shushed up front, with Malakian overlaying melancholic vocal harmonies amid liminal electronic drones and spacious guitar work.
“These songs together embody a different, moodier side of DMSOB. I’m excited for you all to stream two never before released songs,” Malakian wrote on Instagram, adding that a visualizer for “War for Religion” will be released sometime soon.
As previously reported, the recent double LP repress includes “Stranger” and “War for Religion,” as well as rare cuts “Scars on Broadway” and “Hungry Ghost,” which had never before been pressed onto vinyl.
