Last week, it was revealed that Snot would be reuniting next year to play Welcome to Rockville festival in Florida. Now, the nu-metal veterans have announced three additional dates that will precede the Rockville performance.
Appearing on the Talk Toomey podcast, guitarist Mikey Doling also commented on the band’s new as-yet-unnamed vocalist, who will take the formidable place of iconic OG singer Lynn Strait, who was killed in a car crash in 1998 alongside his beloved dog and Snot mascot Dobbs.
The three newly announced shows are set for January 17th at House of Blues Anaheim, January 18th at Brick by Brick San Diego, and February 8th at SOhO in Santa Barbara, and will see Snot reassembling around the core lineup of guitarists Doling and Sonny Mayo, bassist John “Tumor” Fahnestock and drummer Jamie Miller.
As for the band’s new frontman, Doling wouldn’t reveal his identity but he did drop some hints. (Snot has previously reunited with vocalists Tommy Vext and Carl Bensley, neither of which will be involved this time.) The guitarist said that, in 2023, when he saw other reunited nu-metal pioneers like Coal Chamber and Mudvayne getting booked for major festivals, he decided to explore the possibility of getting Snot back together. He put out a request for audition tapes on socials media, and got back some less than satisfactory options.
“I got like eight videos and audio of dudes who just didn’t fit. You know what I mean?” Doling told Talk Toomey host Josh Toomey, as transcribed by ThePRP. “What they did, they would sing with the album, Get Some, and it just didn’t fit. So I almost kind of gave up. And so right there at the end, before I decided to throw the towel in on the whole thing, a friend of mine from Santa Barbara phoned, hit me up, texted me and said, ‘Hey, I found the guy for Snot.’
“And I was like, ‘Yeah, sure,’ in my mind, thinking, Yeah, yeah, right, right. So I jumped on the phone with him, like he has a girl with him. And she said, ‘I saw a guy. He has a band, and he reminded me of Lynn. It was, it was goosebumps.’ He said, This is cool, Lynn is one of his favorite all-time singers. So she put me in contact with them. And again, I asked him. I said, ‘Look, we’re looking for a singer. Do me a favor, set up a camera, microphone and sing along to Get Some, our album.
“And so about three or four days go by, then I get some some videos on my phone, right? So I’m watching the video, and immediately it just punched me in the face how good it was. I was like, Wow, this is the guy.
“What he did is he set up in front of his, he has a little rehearsal spot, drums and amps, and he put Get Some through his PA system, and he wrapped the cable from the microphone run his arm and laying into it as if he was doing a show. He did, like, five songs in. He was absolutely incredible, nailing it. He looks right. He’s got the whole punk vibe that we’re looking for. And he just nailed it, man.
“Singing like Lynn Strait is not easy, man. He absolutely fucking rocked it to the point where I had to sit down. I was so blown away. And so I immediately contacted Tumor, John Fahnestock, bass player for Snot. And Tumor, best guy in the world, but hates everything, right? I sent it to him, and he called me right away and was like, ‘Dude, holy shit, you found our guy.’ That was the first thing he said, ‘Who is it? Is this real?’ You know, like, it’s real. So then I sent it out to the rest of the guys, Jamie and Sonny and and, yeah, the boom, it’s there.”
