2025 is gearing up to be a momentous year for Acid Bath. The Louisiana sludge-metal cult heroes will be reuniting to play their first shows since 1997, at the Sick New World and Sonic Temple festivals. And the band’s frontman Dax Riggs will be releasing his first solo album in 15 years, 7 Songs for Spiders.
Riggs previewed the LP last month with lead single “deceiver,” which he described as “[s]ome kind of country and western doom ballad.” Today (November 18th), the singer-songwriter continues in the creepy-crawly alt-blues vein with his second song for spiders, titled “even the stars fall.”
It’s “a meditation on human collapse and how failure creates the only heaven we’ll ever know,” according to Riggs. “GET UNDEAD! BE ALIVE NOW!” he added. “Cause even the stars fall.”
The rest of 7 Songs for Spiders is said to be inspired by “world music, gospel and proto-metal sounds” and the Cajun landscape in which these songs were written, while its themes include “human beings collapsing in upon themselves, songs about sympathy for the villain, songs about God and what your gods tell you about yourself.”
7 Songs for Spiders is due out January 24th. The album follows Riggs’ 2010 solo album, Say Goodnight to the World.
