Spiritbox didn’t win the Best Metal Performance Grammy today (February 1st) — Turnstile took that particular honor. But Courtney LaPlante and Co. did put on a great metal performance, tearing through their nominated song, “Soft Spine,” during the award show’s Premiere Ceremony in Los Angeles, California.
The action took place at the Crypto.com Arena, and streamed on YouTube and the official Grammy website ahead of the night’s wider on-air broadcast of the Grammys.
Actor and singer-songwriter Darren Criss introduced the band. “These next performers personify modern metal with intensity, precision and emotional weight,” he said. “Nominated this year for Best Metal Performance, please give a rock & roll welcome to Spiritbox.”
As previously reported, this year marks the third consecutive Grammy nomination for Spiritbox in the Best Metal Performance category; Tsunami Sea standout “Soft Spine” squared off against Dream Theater’s “Night Terror,” Ghost’s “Lachryma,” Sleep Token’s “Emergence” and, of course, the night’s winner, Turnstile’s “BIRDS.” They’d previously been nominated in 2025 for their “Cellar Door,” and in 2024 for their song “Jaded.”
