The avalanche is upon us: Record Store Day have formally unveiled their gigantic run of exclusive vinyl releases dropping in 2025.
The 2025 edition of the annual vinyl event takes place April 12th, and as in years past, they’ve cued up dozens of exclusive releases catered to metalheads and hard-rock fans (in addition to the rest of the music world).
But with the heavy-music scene in mind, this year RSD will be pressing up brand-new releases like the forthcoming Mark Morton solo album, a 7-inch pressing of Rise Against’s latest anthem, a one-sided 10-inch featuring a recent round of Jesus Lizard digital singles, and much more.
One of the wilder vinyl drops is the first pressing of Anthrax riffer Scott Ian’s soundtrack to pinball game Black Knight: Sword of Rage. Likewise, current Linkin Park singer Emily Armstrong’s Dead Sara project will be having their 2021 full-length, Ain’t It Tragic, served up on wax for the first time, too.
You like a good live album? Well, this year you can find vinyl slabs of sets from Judas Priest, Motörhead, Ramones, Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against the Machine and others. Additionally, pop mega-star Post Malone is this year’s Record Store Day ambassador, and he’ll be pressing up a vinyl version of his viral 2020 Nirvana covers livestream performance.
There will also be represses of Black Sabbath’s 1987 curio The Eternal Idol, as well as D.C. post-hardcore expressionists Shudder to Think’s 1994 cult classic Pony Express Record. Likewise, color variants are dropping of classic death-metal LPs from Morbid Angel, Carcass, Deicide, Terrorizer and more.
