Curious words from Sleep Token vocalist Vessel on his band’s “Emergence” single, considering this is the first “new offering” from their upcoming album, Even In Arcadia. But following the UK mystics’ brief but cryptic promo campaign, we’ve official hit the “the next chapter,” and fans are ready to pore over every word.
The band’s latest single sets a moody tone up front through its airy, extended piano-and-vocal section, where Vessel hints at promises made, poetically personifies as “the rose you relinquished again” and plunges “down headfirst in another world” alongside someone else.
The vibe seems to hinge on people being on the precipice of a major change, Vessel explaining that it’s time to “come out from underneath who you were… You know that it’s time to emerge.” That Vessel raps up some Xenomorph-like wordplay (“Burst out of my chest and hide out in the vents”) seems quite fitting on this front. The single also concerns “living past your half-life,” dark solstices, and being “well-versed” in the afterlife.
