Charlie Benante has been playing with the reactivated Pantera since December 2022, but the Anthrax drummer goes much further back with the Texas groove-metal titans, and counted the late, great Abbott brothers, Dimebag Darell and Vinnie Paul, among his close friends.
A cookbook of Vinnie’s personal recipes, Drumming Up an Appetite With Vinnie Paul, is finally being published this month after 15 years in the making, and on the occasion of the book’s announcement, Benante looked back on some of his favorite food-related Pantera memories. These include the story of an epic thanksgiving he spent with the Cowboys From Hell in their hometown of Dallas while Anthrax was on tour with them. As Benante recalls, it all culminated in a magical karaoke performance of Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love” by Dimebag himself.
Watch Benante tell the tale below.
Drumming Up an Appetite With Vinnie Paul is set to arrive March 11th via Z2 Books. The book is up for pre-order now at Revolver’s shop, and deluxe packages including Vinnie Paul-branded serviettes and aprons can be found here.
