PANTERA kick off Heaviest Tour of the Summer: See rarities-packed setlist

Pantera launched their “Heaviest Tour of the Summer” last night (July 15th) at Burgettstown, Pennsylvania’s Pavilion at Star Lake, and damn…did it get heavy! And through their 15-song headlining set, the returned Texas groove tacticians delivered monster metal hits and a few songs they hadn’t hit since the early Aughts.

Following opening sets from Snafu and viking-metal veterans Amon Amarth, Pantera — which finds classic lineup bassist Rex Brown and vocalist Philip Anselmo joined by Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante and iconic axesmith Zakk Wylde — mounted the stage with Reinventing the Steel’s opening “Hellbound,” a track the act hadn’t hit in concert since 2001.

That wouldn’t be the only Steel-y song they pulled out of the vault in Burgettstown, as Pantera also performed that record’s “Goddamn Electric” and the anthemic “I’ll Cast a Shadow” for the first time in 24 years.

They also gave The Great Southern Trendkill’s ominously moody “10’s” it’s live debut. “Let’s send this out to the hardcore,” Anselmo said from the stage ahead of the latter. “Everybody take a deep breath. Crack your knuckles. This next song is called ’10’s’.” Tributary footage of late bandmates Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul played on the screens as Wylde cut into his solo.

Throughout the night, Pantera also stomped through classics including “5 Minutes Alone,” “This Love,” “Walk,” “I’m Broken,” and “Cowboys from Hell.” The capped the night with a determinedly furious “Fucking Hostile.”

You’ll find fan-shot footage from the tour-opener up above and down below, while the setlist details can be found below as well (via setlist.fm).

Pantera’s “Heaviest Tour of the Summer” continues tomorrow (July 17th) at Detroit, Michigan’s Pine Knob Music Theater and runs until a September 13th finale at West Palm Beach, Florida’s iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre.
