The makers of Stranger Things are nearly ready to release their fifth and final season, and a new trailer suggests they’re keeping things as riff-tastic as ever. Following the fourth season’s iconic “Master of Puppets” scene — not to mention Vecna actor Jamie Campbell Bower’s recent Sleep Token cover — the showrunners are now saluting mighty hard rockers Deep Purple by incorporating their “Child in Time” in a new sizzle reel.
Unleashed earlier today (June 16th), the trailer previews even more supernatural goings-on in Hawkins, Indiana. This includes a bunch of snarling demogorgons, trips to the Upside Down, and a visit to the gravesite of departed metal shredder Eddie Munson.
As this is all going on, an epic reimagining of Deep Purple’s in Rock cut plays in the background, adding symphonic gravitas to the early Seventies-made wailing of Ian Gillian and master guitar player Ritchie Blackmore. We imagine Eddie spun the song at least a few hundred times on his Walkman ahead of his untimely passing in the Upside Down.
Indeed, you’ll “see the line that’s drawn between good and bad” via the new trailer up above, while the first half of Stranger Things’ fifth season begins streaming on Netflix on November 26th, while you can revisit the Deep Purple song in full down below.
Strangely enough, Deep Purple’s music had also been used to promote the 2019 Hellboy adaptation, which starred Stranger Things actor David Harbour and included a symphonic rendition of “Smoke on the Water” in its trailer.
