NOTHING announce first album in 6 years with gauzy song “cannibal world”

Long-running heavy shoegaze faves Nothing have just unveiled plans to deliver their first album since 2020, and they’ll be doing so through their new label home, Run for Cover Records. The Philly outfit’s A Short History of Decay is due out in early 2026, but they’re letting us feast early via newly unveiled first single “cannibal world.”

Bandleader Domenic Palermo created Nothing’s fifth full-length with a newly revamped lineup that includes guitarist Doyle Martin (Cloakroom), bassist Bobb Bruno (Best Coast), drummer Zachary Jones (MSC, Manslaughter 777) and guitarist Cam Smith (Ladder to God, Cloakroom).

The album has been described in advance as Nothing’s “most sonically expansive and emotionally direct work to date,” and thematically it’s suggested that their Decay acts as “a widescreen reckoning with time, truth, and the body’s slow unraveling.”

To preview all that, they’ve posted a video for “cannibal world.” Sonically, Nothing fit the song with hypnotic breakbeats, gauzy guitar layering and soft-moan vocals from Palermo. The vid finds the bandleader cruising around in his car, while a second narrative finds two figures exploring a crumbling neighborhood before making a truly organic connection.

A Short History of Decay is out February 27th via Run for Cover Records, though a pre-order for an exclusive vinyl edition on “Sour Apple Glitter”-tinted wax, limited to 300 copies, is up in Revolver’s shop.

As previously reported, Nothing are staging their Slide Away Festival in three U.S. cities next May. Hum will be headlining the events in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, and Nothing and Chapterhouse will be performing at all of the shows, too. Other bands set to appear at select dates include Ovlov, Cloakroom, loveliescrushing and more.
