Black-metal icons Mayhem will be getting grim in 2026 with their first full-length album release in seven years. Though their Liturgy of Death releases in full in January, the band are kicking off the ritual a little early via the unveiling of an epically brutal new single called “Weep for Nothing.”
A press release explains that Mayhem’s seventh studio album, which follows 2019’s Daemon, finds the veteran black-metal outfit turning “their focus toward the inescapable reality of death” via songs that examine “loss, fear of dying, powerlessness and the fragility of existence through a stark and unrelenting lens.”
With “Weep for Nothing,” vocalist Attila Csihar unfurls bleak, nihilistic growls on “pitiful mortals” unwilling to “embrace the great and eternal peace.” The band hammer into a ghoulishly dark-blasted intro, lean into a furiously fast wave of minor-key trills and arpeggiation, and bring things to a close with a creepy backend.

Liturgy of Death is out February 6th, but can already be pre-ordered on CD, vinyl and in a deluxe box set that combines the LP with a bonus, two-song 7-inch. You’ll find more details here.
