Baltimore, Maryland’s Pinkshift have gotten progressively heavier since first forming in 2017, most notably needling into a metal-and-hardcore-inspired sound on this year’s Earthkeeper LP. Last spring, they also delivered a hard-battering, Brando-eyed cover of Slipknot’s “eyeless” at a show in Brooklyn, New York — and that live salute has now officially hit streamers.
The cover took place at Brooklyn Steel last April, when Pinkshift were out on the road supporting the Linda Lindas. Halfway through their 10-song set, vocalist Ashrita Kumar noted that while the band generally don’t play covers, they were about to set it off with the classically chaotic “eyeless.”
“This one is for all the dads out there, and the girls,” she said. “I want you to go fucking crazy.”
The cover runs reasonably faithful, Kumar going for the throat as she channels Corey Taylor with quavering, unbridled rage and a bunch of f-bombs. The rest of the band lean into the noise-spiraled groove pretty well, too.
This is all to say, you can freak on Pinkshift’s antics by giving their “eyeless” cover a stream up above.
