Neurosis brought new music and their latest lineup to the stage this weekend for their first public performance in seven years, as part of the Fire in the Mountains festival on the traditional lands of the Blackfeet Nation in Montana.
Saturday night’s (July 25th) 10-song performance at Red Eagle Campground in East Glacier, Montana, was the group’s first live appearance since 2019, and likewise since Sumac/ISIS guitarist-vocalist Aaron Turner had joined the group.
The show likewise occurred a few months on from the release of the band’s new An Undying Love For A Burning World comeback album, and they indeed lit up the stage with a series of stage debuts — “We Are Torn Wide Open,” “Mirror Deep,” “First Red Rays,” “Untethered” and “Blind.”
Turner and longtime members Steve Von Till (vocals, guitar), Jason Roeder (drums), Dave Edwardson (bass) and Noah Landis (keyboards, effects) also dove all the way back to Neurosis 1993 effort Enemy of the Sun for a performance of “Lost.” The set also brought out a pair of crushers from 1999’s Times of Grace, and delivered a song each off 2007’s Given to the Rising and 2016’s A Sun That Never Sets.

The four-day Fire in the Mountains festival also featured reunion sets from alt-country act 16 Horsepower and Norwegian black-metal outfit Between Two Worlds. Other acts included Enslaved, Baroness, Yob, Agalloch, Old Man Gloom and more.
As previously reported, Neurosis have another handful of shows coming up this year. Next up is a September 5th appearance at Asheville, North Carolina’s Hellbender, on a bill with Acid Bath, Melvins and Kylesa. They’re also holding a hometown double-header at the Fillmore in San Francisco, California, which takes place October 16th and 17th.
