Just a day after dropping their surprise STATICA EP last Friday (July 24th), Avenged Sevenfold cast a spell on a Ridgedale, Missouri, crowd for the opening night of their tour with Good Charlotte.
The Saturday night (July 25th) stopover at Thunder Ridge Nature Arena first found A7X — billed under the name STATICA — delivering an early-evening four-song set comprising all of the experimentally dance-groovy electro-rock songs found on the polarizing new EP. In keeping with the record’s idiosyncratic nature, they actually performed this part of the show backstage, with the performance broadcasted on the venue screens for the audience to behold.
Later on in the evening, A7X returned to the stage for a proper performance under their own name that pulled from various eras of their catalog. The 12-song set had the O.C. metal vets opening the night with Nightmare’s title track, a feat that hadn’t pulled off since 2016 (per setlist.fm). Following this, they gave their mesmerizing “Magic” single for the Call of Duty franchise its first-ever live performance.
They also leaned into hits like City of Evil’s “Bat Country,” ran things back to Waking the Fallen’s “Unholy Confessions,” offered up a pair of songs from 2023’s Life Is But a Dream…, and more.
