Though Metallica have a number of massive M72 tour dates on deck around the world between now and 2026, the globe’s biggest metal band are switching things up for U.S. fans this fall by booking a rare and supremely intimate performance.
The show takes place at Long Island, New York’s Stephen Talkhouse on August 28, and it’s being staged to celebrate the launch of the band’s new SiriusXM channel, Maximum Metallica. The venue holds about 250 people, and tickets will be given away — SiriusXM and Metallica each have contests running. Good luck!
That said, if you don’t get to attend in person, the show will begin streaming on Maximum Metallica on Monday, September 1st at 12 p.m. ET, and it will also be rebroadcast throughout the week. The performance will also be streamed through Howard Stern’s SiriusXM channel on Friday, September 5th at 7 p.m. ET and PT, and it’ll be available on the SiriusXM app.
The Maximum Metallica channel officially launches Friday, August 29th on Channel 42 and the SiriusXM app. Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich joined Howard Stern on the latter’s show this morning to discuss the new channel.
During the interview, Ulrich also addressed the recent rumors that Metallica have an upcoming residency at the Sphere in Nevada, saying: “I’m not going to confirm anything, because there’s nothing to confirm. But I’m not going to deny it, because we’re all such fans of this venue. All of our managers and our production people have been there and looked at it. It’s something that we’re considering, [but] nothing is etched in stone or green-lit. It’s something that we’re looking at some point when the 2026 tour is done.”
He added of the venue: “I was there seeing U2 the first night…I wanted to see it for myself before I saw it on YouTube or read about it. I was there, [and] like everybody else that was there that night, I was completely blown away, and felt that was the beginning of another chapter in live performances.
“I’m not going to bullshit you, I would fucking love to do it, let there be no question about it. It’s not signed, sealed and delivered, but speaking to me and asking my opinion I would fucking love to do it.”
