The surviving members of Vimic — the hard-rock group co-founded by late OG Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison — will be launching a crowdfunding campaign to release their long-promised debut full-length, Open Your Omen.
In an official Kickstarter listing, the band revealed their hopes to to deliver the album, which had been recorded in 2014, later this year. It’s added that the Jordison Family Estate had spent the last several years trying to secure the rights to the music, and they will be issuing the record independently (the album had initially been expected to be released in 2018 via Universal Music Enterprises/T-Boy).
“Joey didn’t do anything small,” Jordison’s family wrote on Kickstarter. “We want to release this album the way he would have wanted; with the designs he was so actively involved with creating for the CD, double LP, merch, and with the support of his fans to make the biggest splash we can upon release.”
Vimic were formed after Jordison’s departure from Slipknot in 2013, and likewise following the dissolution of another of his projects, Scar the Martyr. The initial lineup featured Jordison on drums, vocalist Kalen Chase, guitarists Jed Simon and Kris Norris, bassist Kyle Konkiel, and keyboardist Matthew Tarach.
Speaking with Revolver in 2017, Jordison explained that performing with Vimic helped him manage the health problems he’d been faced with after being diagnosed with transverse myelitis — a painful, inflammatory nerve condition that significantly affected his drumming.
“We started this record when I was coming out of the acute transverse myelitis condition. It’s literally what saved me and helped me get back to where I’m healthier than ever,” he said at the time. “These guys and this album pushed me to not only relearn how to walk, but how to play the drums again. Open Your Omen is the rebirth of the rest of my life.”
Open Your Omen had been teased in 2016 and 2017 with the singles “Simple Skeletons,” “She Sees Everything,” “My Fate” and “Fail Me (My Temple).” The latter features a guest spot from Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine.
The album had been produced by Kato Khandwala (The Pretty Reckless, Pop Evil), who sadly passed away in a tragic motorcycle accident in 2018.
The Kickstarter campaign officially launches April 28th, and the Jordison family plan to release the album on CD and double LP. Though the details have yet to be revealed, they will be selling memorabilia and various personal items of Jordison’s through the campaign.
It’s also been added that Vimic are expected to reunite for a celebratory record release concert sometime in the future, with “iconic drummers” said to be sitting in for the late Joey Jordison.
