Formed in 2006, Kentucky noise-rock crew Young Widows rose out of ashes of much-loved mathcore unit Breather Resist and crafted a menacing, wide-ranging sound that encompassed everything from speaker-splattering hardcore to Nick Cave-esque post-punk. But they’ve been on a creative hiatus since 2014, when they released the album Easy Pain and a split with Helms Alee.
2025 marks Young Widows’ return. Today (January 8th), the band announced a new album, Power Sucker, and heralded it with a swaggering, gnarsty new single aptly titled “Call Bullshit.” The song — think Josh Homme singing for the Melvins — arrived accompanied by a surreal, retro-styled music video.
