We’re at the start of a brand-new year, and already we’re salivating at all the music potentially coming out between now and next December.
Over here at Revolver HQ, we recently rounded up 60 highly anticipated albums either already in the works or rumored to pop off some time in 2025. While that list runs the gamut from tried-and-true metal legends to hardcore bruisers to industrial godhead, we know we’re not the only ones looking forward to the many ways heavy music is going hit us these next 12 months.
With that in mind, we asked Revolver readers to vote for the records and artists they’re most stoked to start cranking in 2025, and these were your top 5 picks.
Spiritbox – Tsunami Sea
It’s been a hell of a run for Spiritbox so far, and it seems like things are only getting heavier for the Canadian-formed combo.
After unleashing their djent-concussed “Soft Spine” single and the more-melodic but still fully cranked “Perfect Soul” in 2024, the group are now set to unveil their sophomore full-length, Tsunami Sea, in March.
Revolver readers can’t wait to get drenched in waves of both Mike Stringer’s savagely strummed-out guitar work and vocalist Courtney LaPlante’s dynamic approach to screams and cleans. Many may even take in a super-soaking while catching Spiritbox on either their upcoming headlining tour or their clutch of dates supporting Linkin Park.
Gojira – TBA
Gojira broke the internet in 2024 while powering through their instantly-iconic performance of “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça Ira)” during the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony. That palatial outing was one of the year’s most buzzed-about pop-culture moments, and it’s why Revolver readers voted Gojira their Artist of the Year.
The song likewise whetted all of our appetites for what’s next from the French progressive metal faves. Four years on from the release of their last album, Fortitude, the band have hinted that their next release could be even more ambitious and heavy.
We say bring it on.
Sleep Token – TBA
While Sleep Token spent a chunk of 2024 out on the road, it’s been nearly two years since the U.K. metal eclectics summoned their beloved Take Me Back to Eden album. But if you’re a major Sleep Token fan – as countless Revolver readers clearly are, per the voting – the outlook for new music is looking optimistic in 2025.
The U.K.’s Download Festival recently teased that their summer event will be the place to “witness the next chapter” of Sleep Token, while the band likewise inked a new deal with RCA Records last year. Vessel and the rest of the masked collective have yet to formally unveil their plans for the year, but the arrival of something big seems to be on the horizon.
Marilyn Manson – TBA
Our readers voted Marilyn Manson’s One Assassination Under God – Chapter 1 as their favorite album of 2024, so naturally they’re looking forward to the shock rocker turning the page to uncover a Chapter 2.
While Manson has yet to formally confirm a sequel, the title of his first album in four years would seem to suggest he’s got grand, ongoing plans in mind through this both celebrated and controversial comeback era.
As to whether that hypothetical sequel will drop as soon as this year, that’s another question entirely. But one can always hope.
Deftones – TBA
Deftones have been working on a follow-up to 2020’s Ohms with producer Nick Raskulinecz since at least 2023. At one point, guitarist Stephen Carpenter even posited that the alt-metal titans were going to deliver the goods last spring. That clearly did not happen, but that disappointment did not dissuade Revolver readers from hailing the next Deftones LP their most anticipated release of 2025.
Not an iota of new music slipped into Deftones setlists over this past year, but with a forthcoming headlining arena tour kicking off at the end of February — not to mention a couple big-time and instantly-sold-out supporting slots for their friends System of a Down up in Canada — we’re hoping it’s just a matter of time before they crush us with some fresh alt-metal sublimity.
