Good news! Cradle of Filth vocalist Dani Filth has revealed that the band’s next album is apparently out this April. But here’s the bad news: the record will not feature that long-anticipated, music world-crossing collaborative track between the UK black metal vets and English pop star Ed Sheeran.
A new interview conducted by Metal Hammer found Filth revealing that his band’s 14th album will officially be called The Screaming of the Valkyries. A firm release date was not offered by the vocalist, but the Scott Atkins-produced release will harken back to the band’s Midian and Dusk… and Her Embrace periods, “especially in the atmosphere and the subject matter.”
Notably, Filth also added that the nine-song album won’t feature any guest appearances, which led the interviewer towards asking the singer about the status of Cradle of Filth’s collab with Sheeran. Filth confirmed that it won’t be on The Screaming of the Valkyries, because they don’t want the pop star’s appearance to “overshadow” the release. But it will hit our ears…eventually.
“Originally, everybody wanted us to bring it out to glorious fanfare but Ed’s management weren’t keen on that,” Filth explained. “We’re not absolutely sure how it will emerge, but it’s been done, mixed and it’s sitting on the shelf somewhere… you know, virtually. And it’s fucking fantastic. But only a handful of people have actually heard it. My mum hasn’t even heard it.”
As he recently did on The Downbeat podcast with Craig Reynolds, Filth confessed that the CrEDle of Filth cut sounds like a mix of both his band’s blast-heavy metal and Sheeran’s more acoustic-guided work.
“Obviously, he wouldn’t put his name to a technical death metal track and we wouldn’t put our name to a song that sounded like ‘Galway Girl’ part 2. It’s catchy, though. It’s a good marriage.”
The full details have yet to arrive behind The Screaming of the Valkyries, including whether it may include last fall’s raging “Malignant Perfection” single. Regardless, the band’s next album, one of Revolver’s most-anticipated releases of 2025, seems to be on the way quite soon.
