TOOL virtuoso Danny Carey has popped up to play drums on a new song for upcoming sci-fi comedy Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, with the epically experimental jam-out teaming him up with former Icarus Line vocalist Joe Cardamone and composer Shepherd Stevenson.
The trio’s collaboration, also called “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die,” hit streamers before arriving in a music video conceived by the American Primitive creative collective — comprising Cardamone, Buddyhead founder Travis Keller and more. You’ll find the visuals up above.
The 7-minute aural odyssey contorts itself from stabbing guitar noise and ambient electronic morbidity, towards Carey’s prog-undulated rhythm-hitting, and onto a cavernous synth-and-drum-booming finale. Cardamone’s goth-peratic vibrato rumbles through mentions of the Iron Dome, “ankle-bracelet babies” traversing L.A. wastelands, and achieving singularity.
It all sounds something like Scott Walker wandering into a bleak-as-midnight Swans jam, and you can check out Carey, Cardamone and Shepherd’s joint venture up above.
Directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Ring), Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die stars Sam Rockwell as a man from the future who travels to the past to round up folks to fight a rogue AI.
