Capitalizing on the crushing spirit of their “Well Made Play,” experimental hardcore collective the Armed have returned with the second taste of their forthcoming The Future Is Here and Everything Needs to Be Destroyed album — and this time, for “Kingbreaker,” they’ve brought out Punch vocalist Meghan O’Neil.
The band’s latest track is a punk anthem powered by brashly-toned-but-melodic guitar chords and a nuclear dance beat from Urian Hackney (Iggy Pop). While Tony Wolski is singing his way through most of the cut, O’Neil delivers expertly punishing screams throughout.
A loft-set, screen-splitting music video, co-directed by Wolski and Aaron Jones, finds the band crushing the cut is a more stable environment than the battle-heavy clip for last month’s “Well Made Play.”
As previously reported, The Future Is Here and Everything Needs to Be Destroyed has been described as “a grim reflection of a society that mistakes narcissism for self-awareness,” as well as “genre-defying, yet overtly pissed.”
In addition to O’Neil, the record features performances from Converge’s Kurt Ballou, Queens of the Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen, Ken Szymanski, Patrick Shiroishi, Cara Drolshagen, Brian Wolski, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Ben Chisholm, Prostitute, Zach Weeks, Mark Guiliana, Kayleigh Goldsworthy and Derek Coburn.
The Future Is Here and Everything Needs to Be Destroyed is due out August 1st via Sargent House. A limited-edition copy on cloudy with yellow, pink and green splatter vinyl can be pre-ordered now in Revolver’s shop.
