Revocation are back and ready to repulse. A few months on from the tech-death rippers’ “Confines of Infinity” track with Cattle Decapitation’s Travis Ryan, they’ve now tapped Job for a Cowboy growler Jonny Davy to deliver a grotesque guest spot on their new, body-horror-centric single “Cronenberged.”
The track arrives along with the announcement that Revocation’s ninth album, New Gods, New Masters, is out this fall. “Cronenberged” mashes out swanky, slappy bass rhythms, virulent velocity, and wrist-grinding triplet chugging, while vocalist-guitarist Dave Davidson also injects some seriously shreddy guitar moments.
Lyrically, Davidson noted in a press statement that the song is referencing David Cronenberg’s goopy, body dysmorphic filmography, as well as transformative slang from sci-fi comedy Rick & Morty.
Accordingly, Davidson growls through lines about being trapped by scientists performing a genetic experiment on him, which leads to “eyes, teeth and hair now growing where they should not be.” Davy is also on-board with some monstrous cries of his own.
The music video, which you can see up above, finds Davidson going through a horrific, on-theme transformation.
“The video for ‘Cronenberged’ features tons of gore and practical effects,” he says. “It was so fun to create a little mini sci-fi horror movie for this track. Getting to transform into a hideous tentacle monster was a real treat. I knew things were going well when the My Good Eye film crew were gagging at how gross it was off screen.”
As for Revocation’s New Gods, New Masters, the 9-song album was produced by Davidson, and it’s the group’s first with rhythm guitarist Harry Lannon and bassist Alex Weber. In addition to features from Ryan and Davy, the album also includes appearances from Gorguts’ Luc Lemay and jazz guitarist Gilad Hekselman.
New Gods, New Masters is out September 26th via Metal Blade Records. Pre-orders can be found here.
Revocation also have a North American tour teed up for later in the fall, which will have them out on the road with Judiciary, Inferi and Vomit Forth. You’ll find the rundown of dates beneath the new album’s cover art and tracklisting.
