Snapcase are shouting out the roots of Buffalo, New York hardcore with a new cover of local legends Zero Tolerance’s “Back to Square One.”
The group’s cover arrives as part of the upcoming The Dogs of Hope benefit LP through Iodine Records, which is donating net profits from physical and digital sales to the Randolph County Animal Shelter in Wedowee, Alabama.
As for the cover, Snapcase revamp the track — which had initially appeared on Zero Tolerance’s Fuel the Fire cassette release from 1991 — with vocalist Daryl Taberski’s familiar tenor-howl, metallic chugging and pitch-warped guitar noise.
“This band and this song are really important to Snapcase,” Taberski said in a statement on Instagram. “Zero Tolerance are considered the forefathers of Buffalo hardcore and we wouldn’t exist as a band if it wasn’t for them.”
The upcoming The Dogs of Hope additionally features a mix of unreleased and rare tracks form the likes of Killswitch Engage, Deadguy, Orange 9mm, Jeromes Dream, Walter Schreifels and more. The benefit was plotted out by Iodine Records to support the no-kill shelter and its various programs.
“This isn’t about changing the whole world,” the label’s Tom Bejgrowicz, a longtime shelter volunteer, had previously said in a statement. “It’s about changing a world—one animal at a time.”
The Dogs of Hope is out in-full on August 1st. A version on cloud blue splatter vinyl, limited to 200 copies, is available for pre-order in Revolver’s shop.
