Matty Matheson’s new hardcore band, Pig Pen, have just offered up another succulent taste of their forthcoming, much-anticipated debut LP, Mental Madness. This time around, they’re giving us an animated tour of their gnarly, mid-tempo “Rabid Beach.”
The Toronto, Ontario outfit’s second single begins with a waltz-crushed, NYHC-adjacent pace and manic, wave-cresting lyrics about life on this “Beach.” The song ramps up the intensity with a double-time slam full of gargantuan gang vocals.
A press release explains that the new, hand-drawn video by Jesi Jordan captures the “rage and frustration” Matheson and the rest of Pig Pen seethe into the piece. Visually, this encompasses: snakes morphing into butterflies; Matheson’s teeth transforming into another human; artistic lactating.

As previously reported, Pig Pen comprises vocalist Matheson, Alexisonfire guitarist Wade MacNeil, indie-country guitarist Daniel Romano, Romano’s brother Ian SKI Romano on drums, and Young Guv/Romano collaborator Tommy Major on bass.
The band’s 10-song, Eighties hardcore-inspired Mental Madness was written and recorded in a matter of days. The album was engineered by Ian Romano, and was later mixed by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Tomb Mold).
