Connecticut’s En Masse are bracing themselves for the release of their next ep, newviolenttrends. Before they officially put the whole thing in transit, Revolver have teamed-up with the rising post-hardcore romantics to premiere the subway-set music video for their heart-gazing new single, “taketwo.”
The track is the third preview from the upcoming EP, and it slow-rolls itself out via a pink fog of heavy-shoegazing guitar sonics. Throughout, guitarist-vocalist Zack Santiago breathily mewls out his lines like a lost descendant of Deftones’ Chino Moreno.
Visually, we’re treated to the sight of a young woman making her way into a transit system one night, and then being faced with perspective-changing missing persons posters. From there, scored by the post-hardcore undulating of En Masse, she puts on a platform-crossing, psyche-spiraling interpretive dance that brings to mind the tragic ballet of Possession’s infamous subway scene.
Santiago explains of the song, itself: “taketwo at its core is a romance song about enduring the turbulence of relationships and how we tend to overanalyze and dissect our partners because of our own cycles of insecurity but ultimately choosing to be better.”
newviolenttrends is out June 20th via Fever Ltd. Santiago added that four-song release, which likewise feature previously released tunes “justthisonce” and “masq,” is about “finding balance within yourself and embracing the autonomy you have in a seemingly hostile world.”
