Rise Against want the ground to shake and your head to bang over the sound of their first single in three years. Delivered just ahead of the punk-flavored rock band’s upcoming “Rise of the Roach” tour with Papa Roach, the new song is titled “Nod.”
“Nod,” which follows Rise Against’s Nowhere Generation II EP, was produced by Catherine Marks (Boygenius, St. Vincent) and mixed by Alan Moulder (Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age). The power-chorded rocker is described by the band as an rally anthem against blind, unfocused anger. It in turn attempts to convince people to “stop lashing out [and] start joining together” in the face of adversity.
“’Nod’ is about the solace we find in community,” lead vocalist and lyricist Tim McIlrath explained in a statement. “It’s about the comfort in knowing that we are not alone. This comfort can temper our anger and our frustration, at least temporarily.”
A music video for the song—which mixes live footage of Rise Against with shots of what we might describe as a bunch of CGI marbles circle pitting inside a stone cutout of the Rise Against logo— is streaming up above.
As previously reported, Rise Against are teaming up with Papa Roach for this spring’s “Rise of the Roach” tour, which begins March 20th at Houston, Texas’ Toyota Center. The trip celebrates Rise Against’s 25 years together as a band, as well as the silver anniversary of Papa Roach’s Infest album.
