Shinedown are doubling their fun this month. Marking the Jacksonville, Florida rockers’ first releases since 2023’s Planet Zero album, the Active Rock faves just unloaded two new singles “Dance, Kid Dance” and “Three Six Five.”
Both songs hit streamers today (January 24th) via longtime label Atlantic Records. “Dance, Kid, Dance,” in particular is a kind of de facto anthem for Shinedown this year, considering the band’s spring-to-summer tour schedule is likewise being billed as the “Dance, Kid, Dance Tour.”
As for the song itself, it’s a generally feverish and fun-seeking pop-rocker, though some bouncy post-chorus breaks are also in the mix. Lyrically, it’s about pushing your phobias and social quirks to the wayside, in order to enjoy life as it comes (“Don’t overthink it, let’s just rock out and let’s dance!”)
“Three Six Five” is more of a yearning rock song, delivered with a softer touch. It hits a similar theme, with it being explained by the band that “Three Six Five” is about how we all need “to stop wasting time and focus on the moments we have right now.”
“We needed to approach everything different this time,” vocalist Brent Smith said of the songs in a statement. “The last two albums [Planet Zero and 2018’s Attention Attention] were both conceptual so it was important for us to really ask ourselves creatively where do we want to go. The answer to that was we want to go everywhere so there was no specific direction. We just started writing, and let the new songs guide us. I also think we stopped saying ‘why’ and started saying ‘why not?’”
In addition to the new tunes, which you can stream up above and down below, tickets for Shinedown’s upcoming Dance, Kid, Dance Tour went on sale today. The headlining trek begins April 25th at Des Moines, Iowa’s Wells Fargo Arena, and runs off-and-on all the way until an August 30th closing date at Memphis, Tennessee’s FedEx Forum.
