Coming off the semi-recent release of Rise Against’s “Nod” single and a round of tour dates with Papa Roach, the Chicago quartet have now delivered the details on their first full-length in four years. The album is titled Ricochet, and they’ve bank-shotted a new single called “I Want it All” off the announcement.
The new song is a direct, driving hard rock song full of choppily anthemic power chords. Vocalist-guitarist Tim McIlrath scratchily sings of connection, fate and making a change (“Can’t run if we never crawl”).
The challenges of life implied by McIlrath’s words are complemented by a music video where a man navigates a complex, Escher-like staircase. You can check it out up above.
As for Ricochet, McIlrath said in a statement that the record is more broadly themed around our “collective inter-connectedness.”
“Everything you do is going to affect somebody; everything you throw will affect the next person,” he said. “We’re connected to other countries, other economies; we’re connected to undocumented immigrants. We’re connected to every decision our leaders make. It’s all one big ricochet effect. That idea is the backbone of this album.”
Ricochet follows 2021’s Nowhere Generation. The new album was produced alongside Grammy-winner Catherine Marks (Boygenius, Foals, Manchester Orchestra, St. Vincent) and later mixed by Alan Moulder (Nine Inch Nails, Paramore, Queens of the Stone Age).
The album is out August 15th via Loma Vista Recordings. Vinyl copies on translucent “orange crush” vinyl, limited to 500 copies, are available for pre-order in Revolver’s shop.
As previously reported, Rise Against have teamed-up with Papa Roach this year for their “Rise of the Roach” North American tour. The first leg of dates wrapped back in August, but the trip resumes in September.
