Maynard James Keenan and the rest of Puscifer have briefly paused the promo campaign behind their forthcoming Normal Isn’t LP to deliver a standalone cover of cult indie outfit Low’s “Congregation,” as a comment on “all the madness going on in Minneapolis.”
Puscifer dropped their tribute on Instagram last night (February 3rd), via a black and white video incorporating footage of a street-roaming coyote with shots of Keenan, Carina Round and Mat Mitchell laying down an ambient, analog synth-droning take on Low’s “Congregation,” from that band’s 2015 full-length, Ones and Sixes.
Keenan wrote on his Instagram page that the past few weeks have had him reflecting on the situation in Minnesota where federal immigration enforcement actions conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (a.k.a ICE) and border police have prompted public protests, as well as confrontations between agents and community members, including two fatal shootings.
The situation also had him thinking about the Dultuh, Minnesota-formed Low and their late founding drummer-vocalist, Mimi Parker, who passed away in 2022 following a battle with ovarian cancer.
“All the madness going on in Minneapolis sent me down a Low rabbit hole. Missing Mimi Parker,” he wrote. “Carina suggested maybe we cover a song in her and their honor. Merchants of Emotion is in our job description. ‘Discovering New and Awful Ways to Treat Each Other’ wasn’t on my Bingo card for 2026, but here we are.”
He capped the video post with the grave hashtags #worldwartres #civilwardeux and #smalldickenergy. You’ll find the full cover in the post down below.
As previously reported, Puscifer’s Normal Isn’t sees release this Friday (February 6th) via Puscifer Entertainment/Alchemy Recordings/BMG. A live version of the collection, recorded last summer in L.A., will also arrive on vinyl for Record Store Day, while their Tales from the Pusciverse comic book drops in the near future, and a North American tour begins in March.
