Fugitive, the Texan crossover-thrash group led by Power Trip six-stringer Blake Ibanez, have delivered their first song in close to two years, and it’s a ripper. Marking their debut release for new label home Blue Grape Music, the track is called “Spheres of Virulence.”
The tune itself is straight-forward but supremely nasty, propelling itself with a nail-hammerin’ mid-tempo metal beat, deviant D-standard riff-farmin and a mega-raspy performance from frontman Seth Gilmore (Power Trip, Skourge) on poisoned minds and being left to die “beneath the cross.” The track plies a vintage heft akin to early ‘Tallica, Obituary and Entombed.
“Spheres of Virulence” was produced by Ibanez and mixed by Tom Dalgety, and previews a forthcoming fuller release with Blue Grape, which is said to be due later in 2025. A music video for the song, directed by Raul Vela IV, is also coming soon. The band had last left listeners with 2023’s “Blast Furnace”/“Standoff” single, which itself followed 2022 debut EP Maniac.
