Hear POPPY’s moody cover of WHAM!’s “Last Christmas”

Christmas has come early for Poppy fans, for the genre-twisting phenom has just gifted the world a new version of Wham!’s “Last Christmas” ahead of the holidays.

Poppy’s take on the classic Eighties number arrives as an exclusive Spotify Single, and it takes on more of a pop-punking crunch than the iconically sab-boi-ing synth-pop cut originally sung by George Michael.

The amped-up arrangement adds a new moody flavor to the verse melody. Poppy plays it reasonably straight, though adding drama via a dynamic injection of whispers and croons about the unwilling Xmas recipient. Poppy also makes a few minor stylistic changes to the lyrics, but hits the chorus the way you all love it. Without spoiling too much, there’s also a holly jolly guest spot near the end of the cover.

Produced by Bring Me the Horizon alum Jordan Fish, Poppy’s new seasonally-themed single is available for a stream down below via Spotify and Sumerian Records.

Poppy just recently wrapped up a North American leg of her headlining “They’re All Around Us” tour, and will next be supporting Linkin Park on a batch of South American shows. You’ll find those dates over here.
