Hear POISON THE WELL’s first new song in 15 years “Trembling Level”

Poison the Well have unleashed their first new song in 15 years, “Trembling Level,” a fiery taste of what’s to come on their highly anticipated follow-up to 2009’s The Tropic Rot. The metalcore pioneers first teased an upcoming sixth studio album last summer — in the most niche way possible, via a thank you note included in their vinyl discography box set — and now, with this blistering single, it’s clear they haven’t missed a beat.

Produced by Will Putney (Better Lovers, Fit for an Autopsy) and released via Poison the Well’s freshly minted partnership with SharpTone Records, “Trembling Level” showcases both the band’s aggressive metalcore side and their more melodic post-hardcore side. The song also notably finds former guitarist Derek Miller — who split in 2004 and has since focused on Sleigh Bells — credited as a songwriter. Miller last briefly rejoined the fold in 2015, but this is the first time in over a decade that he’s contributed to a Poison the Well song.

“For me, I was trying to figure how to effectively incorporate elements from our whole discography into one song,” guitarist Ryan Primack commented. “We ended up with this, and it has a little bit of everything we’ve done throughout the course of our existence.”

Vocalist Jeff Moreira added: “Lyrically, it’s about tackling a fear. I tend to write based on personal experience. You’re approaching something you’re scared to do, going through it, and realizing the hardest parts are actually the ones you should be looking towards because those will lead you to success.”

In other news, Poison the Well has added two more dates to their North American spring tour celebrating 25 years of their seminal 1999 debut, The Opposite of December… A Season of Separation. The two new stops include April 3rd at The Nile Theater in Mesa, Arizona, and April 13th at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, Kansas. The tour will feature an all-star lineup, with Glassjaw, Better Lovers and Teenage Wrist joining in select cities.
