Philip Anselmo’s extreme metal supergroup SCOUR are heading “onward and downward” with the latest freakishly furious preview from their forthcoming Gold album. This time, they’re showcasing a grotesque flesh-ripper called “BLADES.”
The steely second single begins with a series of monstrous blasts and blackened guitar heaviness, while Anselmo gets grimy on the track with profane squeals, lungbuttered gutturals, bassy whispers and more.
Thematically, Anselmo’s lines hint at an epically bloody, scabbard-swinging battle that may be preceding the rebirth of the Antichrist. You can hear the sum of SCOUR’s new “gothic tower of gore” up above.
As previously reported, SCOUR teams the Pantera vocalist with extreme metals vets Derek Engemann (Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals), John Jarvis (Nest, Agoraphobic Nosebleed), Mark Kloeppel (Misery Index) and Adam Jarvis (Pig Destroyer, Misery Index, Lock Up).
The band’s Gold record, previously described by Engemann as possessing a “relentless blend of intricate guitar work and raw, unforgiving intensity,” is out February 21st via Housecore Records/Nuclear Blast.
