Following an impressive run of nu-gazing singles released throughout 2024, U.K. unit Split Chain have hit us with their first song of the new year. This one’s called “I’m Not Dying to Be Here,” which we’re gonna say is a curiously titled song to drop during the band’s first-ever U.S. tour. Nevertheless, it crushes.
The Bristol-based band, who Revolver recently labeled “Artists You Need to Know,” last left us with a punky Type O Negative cover. By contrast, “I’m Not Dying to Be Here” leans back into the melancholic, Deftones-ish grooves the group have been undulating through on their other original tracks.
The video features flipped-negative shots of vocalist Roberto Martinez-Cowles breathily crooning of emotionally distant and dejected scenarios above the rest of the band’s teal, post-hardcore teariness.
It’s added by the band that the song is “a raw and honest reflection on the courage it takes to choose yourself, even when it means walking away from someone you once trusted.” You can hear it for yourself up above.
As previously reported, Split Chain recently began their first-ever North American tour, which has them supporting post-hardcore veterans Silverstein and Thursday.
The trek continues tonight (January 17th) at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Stage AE and concludes February 15th at Montreal, Quebec’s L’Olympia, though Split Chain also hit a headlining appearance at Ridgewood, New York’s TV Eye venue on February 18th before flying back to the U.K.
